The British and Irish Lions Women's team is set to make history by playing their first-ever fixture against France at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. This landmark match will take place on Friday, 27 August at 19:30 BST, serving as a send-off before their 2027 tour to New Zealand.
Head coach Jo Yapp described the occasion as a unique moment in sport, with the team stepping onto the field for the first time on home soil. The Lions will face a formidable French side, ranked fourth globally and recent semi-finalists at the 2025 World Cup.
Following the Cardiff encounter, the Lions will embark on a five-match tour of New Zealand, which includes a game against a Black Ferns XV and three Tests against the Black Ferns. The first Test is scheduled for 11 September in Auckland.
Carol Isherwood, chair of the Lions women's committee, highlighted the match's potential to grow the game and leave a lasting legacy. She expressed hope for a large crowd, noting the record 21,186 attendance for a Wales women's home game in 2025.
