Soprano Lise Davidsen has released a new Verdi album, featuring five heroines from the composer's operas. The album, accompanied by Edward Gardner and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, focuses on roles that reportedly suit Davidsen's vocal talents.
The album opens with Lady Macbeth, showcasing Davidsen's coloratura and top notes. Edward Gardner's orchestral accompaniment is described as buoyant and spacious, allowing Davidsen to create a thoughtful portrayal of the character. Her breath control in the sleepwalking scene is highlighted.
Davidsen also explores moments of vulnerability in the album, particularly in Amelia's aria from Un Ballo in Maschera and Elisabeth's Tu Che le Vanità from Don Carlo. Other roles featured include Leonora from La Forza del Destino and Aida.
