Liverpool supporters' group Spirit of Shankly (SoS) has written to the club to emphasise that governance and stewardship remain "fundamental to us all", as a consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos nears a deal to acquire a significant minority stake.
The investment group, which also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, is led by Amit Bhatia, who has prior operational experience in sports. SoS has requested further clarity and a meeting to address the prospective changes, citing concerns over potential shifts in club operations.
Liverpool's parent company, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), has consistently been open to external investment. The club's value has reportedly risen from £300 million in 2010 to approximately £4.5 billion today. FSG previously saw Dynasty Equity acquire a stake of around three per cent for about £120 million in 2023.
Liverpool chief executive Billy Hogan stated last month that FSG principal owner John Henry has been clear that investment opportunities that would help the club would be seriously considered. SoS is seeking details regarding the new investors' potential influence, including board seats and involvement in running operations.
