Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed it will discontinue the Halifax brand, marking the end of a 173-year-old brand's presence on UK high streets. The decision follows a review of Lloyds' branding strategy, with the group aiming to consolidate its operations under a single brand.
The bank will stop opening new accounts under the Halifax brand and will begin a process of shifting existing accounts to Lloyds branding over the coming days. This move is expected to be completed by early 2027, with 190 of the group's 531 branches set to have Halifax signs removed.
Despite the change, customers will not see any disruption to their services, with sort codes and account numbers remaining unaffected. However, this move marks the end of an era for the Halifax brand, which has been a familiar sight on UK high streets for over a century and a half.
The decision is part of a broader effort by Lloyds to simplify its branding and operations. The group has operated under three brands – Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland – since 2009, but will now focus on a single brand, Lloyds, for customers in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
