Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah, a Libyan who was cleared after standing trial over the Lockerbie bombing, is reported to have died aged 70. His death was announced by Libyan Airlines via a Facebook post.
Fhimah was accused of murdering 270 people in the attack on Pan Am Flight 103 in December 1988. In 2001, he was found not guilty by a Scottish court sitting in the Netherlands, while Abdulbasset Al Megrahi was convicted.
In 2022, the FBI revealed Fhimah had been implicated again in the case. This was through an alleged confession by Abu Agila Mohammad Masud Kheir Al-Marimi, who is due to stand trial in Washington in January.
