The London City 7s tournament is set to kick off on September 17, bringing top-tier rugby to the Square Mile. Nine teams are confirmed to play at the Honourable Artillery Company, promising a dynamic day of action.
Among the participating teams are Union Bordeaux-Begles, the reigning European champions, and fellow French Top 14 side USAP Perpignan. The Barbarians, often described as rugby's answer to the Harlem Globetrotters, will also feature.
The event will begin with a sport business conference, followed by a full day of rugby and hospitality. Last year, approximately 3,000 people attended, establishing the event as a key gathering for both rugby enthusiasts and business leaders.
Former player Jim Hamilton, part of the team behind the London City 7s, highlights the sport's appeal, noting its fast pace and athletic displays. He suggests that rugby sevens, with its blend of travel, entertainment, and experience, is well-positioned to attract investment and interest in the evolving sports landscape.
