Londoners bracing themselves for a weekend of travel chaos as Transport for London (TfL) announces a series of planned closures across several Underground and Overground lines. The disruptions, which affect several major routes, are part of essential engineering works aimed at upgrading the capital's transport infrastructure.
The Jubilee Line will be shut down between West Hampstead and Stanmore from Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st April, impacting commuters travelling to and from north-west London. Similarly, the Metropolitan Line will experience a full closure between Aldgate and Wembley Park throughout the weekend, affecting services from the city centre to areas including Harrow and Uxbridge.
The Waterloo & City Line, a crucial link for weekday workers, will be closed all weekend, adding to travel woes. The Elizabeth Line will also see early Sunday morning closures between Paddington and Abbey Wood, and Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 4, potentially affecting early airport travellers.
London Overground services are not exempt from the closures either. The Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside route will be shut for the entire weekend, while the Euston to Watford Junction line will also be closed, affecting local commuters and those travelling further afield. Passengers will need to seek alternative routes using local buses or other Underground lines where possible.
TfL advises passengers to plan their journeys in advance using their website or journey planner app for the most up-to-date information. While these engineering works are crucial for the network's long-term reliability and safety, they inevitably cause short-term inconvenience, particularly for weekend leisure and event travel.
