London Underground passengers face a weekend of disruption as Transport for London (TfL) launches its latest phase of planned closures on three major Tube lines and other services. The essential engineering works aim to maintain and upgrade the network, but will leave thousands struggling to get around the capital.
The Piccadilly Line is the hardest hit, with significant closures throughout both Saturday and Sunday. No service will run between Acton Town and Uxbridge, while there will also be no trains between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge. Travelers heading to Heathrow Airport via the Piccadilly Line are advised to seek alternative routes or use rail replacement services.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Line is fully suspended between Aldgate and Finchley Road for the entire weekend. This central stretch of the line will be inaccessible by Tube, forcing passengers to rely on alternative lines or bus services to get through affected areas. The Central Line also suffers disruption, with no service operating between Leytonstone and Hainault on both Saturday and Sunday.
Disruptions aren't limited to the Underground: the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will be out of action over the weekend, with no service running between Stratford and Canning Town. The sheer scale of these closures highlights the extent of TfL's planned maintenance work.
TfL has promised replacement bus services on some routes to help ease passenger pain. However, these buses are likely to be packed and journey times will increase significantly. Londoners are urged to check the TfL website or use journey planning apps before setting out.
