Artist Lynks has unexpectedly released an England World Cup parody track titled 'Kick The Ball!', which the artist describes as an "accidental" creation. The song, which debuted today, Wednesday June 17, is generating buzz just hours before England commences its Group L campaign against Croatia at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Lynks initially teased the track on social media last week, humorously suggesting they might have "accidentally written the best football song of all time." The song's lyrics are designed to be easily chanted by crowds, offering a comically simple explanation of what the England team needs to do to secure victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The chorus, for instance, states: "Kick the ball into the goal / That’s the game, it’s called football / Kick the ball into the goal / That’s the net between those poles."

The track also features other memorable lines, such as "Three lions are bound to win, because lions are stronger than human men," and a playful acknowledgment of past disappointments: "Come on men… and some women / It’s time to show the world that no one kicks like Britain / Except for all the times we tried to win and we didn’t." Lynks explained the song's origin, stating they had the idea to write a football song from the perspective of someone unfamiliar with the sport. They also noted the humorous 'reverse pinkwashing' aspect, likening it to a gay artist embracing football culture for the World Cup.

The creation of 'Kick The Ball!' was a rapid process, following an enthusiastic response from fans after Lynks posted the initial concept. "I posted the idea to my story and my DMs blew up with people begging me to do it. That was 12 days ago," Lynks shared. "Since then I wrote and produced the song, got it up on streaming, shot a music video… It’s been a bit mad!"

The England versus Croatia match, which kicks off at 9pm BST tonight with ITV1 coverage starting at 8pm, carries historical weight. Croatia famously ended England's World Cup aspirations in the semi-finals eight years ago in Russia and also prevented their qualification for Euro 2008. While Lynks' track adds a fresh, humorous element to the World Cup excitement, the official soundtrack album for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring artists such as The Rolling Stones, Shakira, and Stormzy, was announced earlier this month.
