Drivers on the M25 are facing considerable disruption this morning following two separate lorry fires that have forced anti-clockwise closures across sections of the motorway in Essex. National Highways has confirmed the incidents, with emergency services currently at the scene managing the situation.
The first incident occurred between junction 28 for Brentwood and junction 27 for Epping, necessitating the closure of this stretch of the anti-clockwise carriageway. Shortly after, a second, unrelated lorry fire was reported between junction 27 and junction 26 near Waltham Abbey, leading to further closures and exacerbating traffic issues.
National Highways has warned that due to the intensity of the blazes, the closures are likely to remain in place throughout the morning peak travel period, causing extended delays for commuters. Essex Police are among the emergency services attending the incidents, with National Highways officers also present to assist with traffic management and diversions.
Currently, motorists approaching the affected areas are experiencing delays of approximately 10 minutes, with around one mile of congestion reported. However, these figures are expected to increase significantly as the morning progresses and more drivers attempt to use the route. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes where possible and allow extra time for their journeys.
