The M25 anti-clockwise in Kent has seen significant tailbacks following an HGV fire that blocked the road between junctions six and five. The incident took place near Westerham at 16:05 BST on Monday, 10 August 2026.
The motorway was shut at 17:14 BST, with drivers reportedly stuck in their vehicles. Just after 20:00 BST, a single line of traffic was permitted to pass the lorry, which was by then smouldering on the hard shoulder.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) remains at the scene. At the height of the fire, four fire engines and a bulk water carrier attended, with crews using breathing apparatus to unload the lorry's contents and extinguish the fire. The incident has since been scaled down to one fire engine and a bulk water carrier, and no injuries have been reported.
National Highways has stated there is currently no estimate for when the road will fully reopen, and diversions are being implemented.
