Australia batter Nic Maddinson, 34, recorded the longest duck by an Australian opener in Test history during his return to the Test side against South Africa in Durban on Friday. Maddinson faced 33 balls without scoring a run before being dismissed.
His duck is also the third-longest by any Test opener. Maddinson's recall to the Test team follows his return to cricket 12 months ago, after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in April 2025, which spread to his lung and lymph nodes.
Australia's team for the match included an entire XI aged over 30 for the first time in their history, with 30-year-old Matt Renshaw also returning to the batting line-up. By the midpoint of day one, Australia were 127-6.
