Global superstar Madonna has seemingly dropped a significant hint that she could be headlining Glastonbury Festival when the iconic event returns in 2027. The pop legend made the suggestive remarks during a recent filmed BBC interview with chat-show host Graham Norton, sparking considerable excitement among fans and festival enthusiasts.
During the wide-ranging conversation, which covered her career from New York's club scene to her upcoming album, 'Confessions II', Norton enquired about potential touring plans. Madonna confirmed promotional tours for the new material, before cryptically adding that 'next summer' (referring to 2027), she would be doing 'something bigger…' As Norton's eyes widened, he pressed further, asking if this event would be in the UK. Madonna teasingly replied, 'It could be,' before adding, 'Why do you have to know everything? I’ve told you a lot of interesting things, that’s what you get, and the rest you have to wait for.'
The revelation comes after strong rumours circulated ahead of the 2024 Glastonbury Festival that Madonna was a frontrunner for a headline slot. Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has previously made no secret of her ambition to bring Madonna to Worthy Farm, having publicly praised the singer's performance at London's O2 Arena. However, reports at the time suggested that discussions ultimately broke down, reportedly over the substantial budget required for Madonna's elaborate stage production, which she intended to bring from her 'Celebration Tour'.
The situation mirrors previous comments from Madonna regarding a planned biopic, which she attributed to Universal studio's unwillingness to provide a sufficient budget to cover her extensive life story. The artist's 'Celebration Tour', which concluded in May 2024, was known for its intricate staging and numerous costume changes, elements that would naturally incur significant costs for any festival organiser.
Glastonbury Festival typically announces its initial line-up in the spring preceding the event, which usually takes place in late June. With 2026 being a fallow year for the festival, the next opportunity for a major headline act would be 2027. The timing of Madonna's hints, coinciding with the weekend Glastonbury would have been held were it not for the fallow year, has only intensified speculation.
