A senseless tragedy has shaken a community in west London, where a young mother was brutally stabbed to death while asleep in bed with her husband and infant child. The harrowing incident occurred on a Sunday morning at the Hayes residence of 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur, whose life was tragically cut short by alleged perpetrator Daniel Sean James, 46.
The Old Bailey heard that Ms Kaur's husband awoke to a scream from his wife and witnessed a figure leaving their bedroom. The young mother sustained a fatal stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead shortly after 8:26 BST, sparking an immediate police investigation.
Prosecutors allege that prior to the violent home invasion, James stabbed a man in his 20s in the back on the street just minutes earlier, at approximately 07:50 BST. He then reportedly kicked at the door of Ms Kaur's home on Uxbridge Road and gained entry while the family was asleep.
Following the alleged attack, James is said to have jumped from a window, sustaining two broken ankles in the process, before being apprehended by police nearby. He received hospital treatment for his injuries before being taken into custody and subsequently charged with Ms Kaur's murder, attempted murder, and possession of a blade.
James, of Mercer Place, Pinner, west London, appeared at the Old Bailey on Thursday via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs prison. Judge Nigel Lickley KC remanded him into custody, with a plea hearing scheduled for 1 October 2026.
