An 83-year-old man has admitted offering morphine to a woman who later died. Arthur Sutton, of Cotswolds, Hatfield, pleaded guilty on Tuesday at St Albans Crown Court to three counts of offering to supply morphine to three different women, including Lily Gomes.
Ms Gomes, 27, from Hatfield, Hertfordshire, died in hospital on 18 February 2025 from morphine toxicity. She had fallen unconscious at Mr Sutton's home four days after he had offered her the drug.
Hertfordshire Constabulary stated that Mr Sutton was initially arrested on 16 February 2025 on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs. Detective Constable Andreea Stanoiu-Diaconu highlighted the dangers of misusing prescription medication, stating that morphine should only be taken when prescribed and under medical supervision.
Ms Gomes' family described her as "vivacious, loud, funny and completely herself," adding that they would do everything to keep her memory alive for her children.
