A sense of unease has settled over Newcastle's Byker community following a disturbing incident that left one young man dead. Gino Robb, 25, was fatally wounded in an attack on Shields Road, a busy thoroughfare that cuts through the heart of this North East town.
Emergency services were alerted to the assault at around 7:25 PM BST on Tuesday evening and quickly attended the scene. Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Mr Robb's injuries proved fatal. The incident has sparked a major investigation into what happened, with detectives working tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to this tragic event.
Jed Grieve, 33, of Orpington Avenue in Walker, is one of three individuals charged with murder in connection with Mr Robb's death. Also facing murder charges are two teenagers – aged 14 and 16 – who cannot be identified under current legal regulations due to their age. The trio will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Monday to answer allegations made against them.
Northumbria Police has confirmed that several other individuals, including two men aged 22 and 24, as well as another 16-year-old boy, were arrested on suspicion of murder. All have been released on bail pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Robb's death. Additionally, a 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder has also been released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton has reiterated that officers remain in the Byker and Walker areas as they continue their inquiry. He is appealing for information from members of the public who may have witnessed key events surrounding this incident. Specifically, he is asking anyone who saw two people riding an electric motorbike, believed to have entered Shields Road from Grace Street around the time of the attack, to come forward with any details that may assist investigators.
