A man has been charged following the death of a nine-year-old girl during a family camping trip in Scotland. The girl, who was from West Yorkshire, was discovered seriously injured just after midnight on Monday at the Elliot industrial estate in Arbroath, Angus.
She was transported to Ninewells hospital in Dundee, where she later died. Police Scotland has confirmed that the 35-year-old man charged was known to the girl, and they are not looking for any other individuals in connection with the death.
The man, described by Police Scotland as white British, is scheduled to appear at Dundee sheriff court today, Wednesday. Police are treating the girl's death as suspicious.
DI Mike Ness of Police Scotland’s major investigation team stated that a police presence would remain in the area as inquiries continue. West Yorkshire police are understood to be assisting with the investigation.
