A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body at a summer solstice event in the Peak District. Isaac Clare-Watts, 26, from Nottingham, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to the Nine Ladies Stone Circle area in Stanton Lees on Saturday, 22nd June, at approximately 13:38 BST.
Derbyshire Police have confirmed that Szymon Babynko, a Polish national of Commonwealth Way, London, has been charged with Mr Clare-Watts's murder. Mr Babynko also faces an additional charge of attempted murder, which relates to an incident that occurred in Hady Lane, Chesterfield, on Thursday, prior to the discovery of Mr Clare-Watts's body.
The Nine Ladies Stone Circle is an ancient monument located on Stanton Moor, a popular site for visitors and those observing the summer solstice due to its historical and spiritual significance. The area attracts numerous people during significant astronomical events, making the circumstances surrounding Mr Clare-Watts's death particularly shocking to the local community and those who frequent the Peak District.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing. A 41-year-old man, who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with Mr Clare-Watts's death, was released on bail last week. Authorities have established a major incident public portal, urging anyone with information that could assist their enquiries to come forward.
Mr Babynko is scheduled to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court later today to face the charges. The police have not yet released further details regarding the nature of the incidents or any potential connections between them, as the judicial process is now underway.
