A man has been charged with murder after the body of a young Indigenous woman, Jayda Allen Bonner, 21, was found in a Melbourne apartment complex on Saturday.
Police confirmed on Wednesday that a 31-year-old man was charged with murder. He was expected to appear in the Melbourne magistrates court on Wednesday afternoon.
Ms Bonner was discovered dead on the fifth floor of an apartment block on Cardigan Street, Carlton, at around 1.45am on Saturday. Police stated the charged man presented himself at a police station on Monday.
A 60-year-old man who was initially arrested in connection with the incident has since been released without charge. Ms Bonner's aunt, Kellie Carter-Bell, described her niece as a "vibrant, beautiful young girl" with aspirations of returning to Queensland to work in her community.
