A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder following the shooting death of a 12-year-old boy in Sydney's north in September. Police were called to a unit on Fairway Drive, Norwest, on 21 September 2026, after reports of a shooting.
Officers found the boy with a gunshot wound to his face and neck. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died on 24 September, leading to the state's homicide team taking over the investigation.
The man, who was 18 at the time of the incident, was arrested yesterday at Silverwater correctional facility. He is scheduled to appear in court today.
Police stated that nine other people in the home at the time were not injured. Three men, all aged 18, were initially arrested, with two released pending further inquiries. The third man was charged with concealing a serious indictable offence and remains before the courts.
Det Supt Naomi Moore previously told reporters that police were aware of the unit and had engaged with its occupants. She added that while the shooting did not appear directly linked to current conflicts, several individuals inside the unit were known to NSW police, and their association with organised crime is being considered by investigators.
