The Citizens have made a statement of intent with the proposed signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. A British record £130 million deal is on the table, one that would see City break their own transfer threshold and set a new benchmark for Premier League clubs.
Forest had dug in their heels, rejecting two earlier bids before finally agreeing to sell the 23-year-old England international midfielder. The full value of the deal will be unlocked if it reaches its maximum potential, surpassing Liverpool's £125 million capture of Alexander Isak from Newcastle last summer.
Anderson has been a revelation since joining Forest from Newcastle in 2024 for £35 million, making 88 appearances and scoring four goals. His performances helped the club secure seventh place in the Premier League and a creditable Europa League semi-final finish. But his stint with the Tricky Trees is about to come to an end.
The midfielder is currently on international duty with England, preparing for their final Group L match against Panama at the World Cup. Speaking recently to BBC Sport, Anderson stressed his sole focus remains on his country's campaign: "It's pretty easy really, I'm just focusing on the present, I'm blocking it all out. I've got a plan and it's to perform for England."
With Anderson set to depart, Forest are already planning their midfield reinforcements. The club is eyeing Tottenham's Lucas Bergvall and Davide Frattesi of Inter Milan, with two new signings expected this summer to fill the void left by the departing star.
