Manchester City fans expressed defiance during their home game against Ipswich on 17 October, booing the Premier League anthem and waving inflatable bananas. This display came in their first top-flight home game since the club was found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules.
Despite the off-field issues, City secured a victory over Ipswich, moving them six points clear at the top of the table. Phil Foden, returning from suspension, scored his first goal of 2026 in the 19th minute and later took an inflatable banana into his Match of the Day interview.
Manager Enzo Maresca, who has made Premier League history by winning his first seven games in charge, noted the strong environment. He stated that "The fans, the club and the players are all together on this journey." The match was watched by a record crowd of 60,817 at Etihad Stadium.
