Manchester City, under new boss Enzo Maresca, have surged to the top of the Premier League, winning all five of their opening matches. Their latest victory, a 5-3 win over Sunderland, puts them three points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
Reigning champions Arsenal saw their strong start to the season come to an end with a 3-0 defeat at Brighton. This loss prevented the Gunners from achieving a club-record equalling eighth consecutive win in all competitions and marked their heaviest league defeat since May 2023.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are enduring a difficult start to the season, having secured only one league win from five games. Their five points represent their joint fewest at this stage of a Premier League season, with manager Michael Carrick facing scrutiny.
Brighton and Brentford continue to impress, sitting third and fourth respectively. Brighton's 3-0 win over Arsenal places them two points behind the Gunners, while unbeaten Brentford are just one point further back after a 3-0 victory against Chelsea.
Promoted sides are also making their mark, with Hull City in eighth and Ipswich in eleventh. Tottenham, despite significant summer spending, are in 19th place after a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa, having scored their first two league goals of the campaign.
