Manchester City continued their perfect start to the Women's Super League season, despite a spirited fightback from Brighton. Andree Jeglertz's side initially led by three goals after 17 minutes, with Khadjia Shaw scoring twice and summer signing Niamh Charles adding another. However, Brighton responded with goals from Olivia Garcia and Caitlin Hayes.
Jeglertz expressed annoyance at his team's dip in performance, stating they "let them in by going down a couple of percent." He added that he reminded his players at half-time to return to doing "everything 100%."
City remains two points clear of Chelsea, who delivered a dominant second-half performance to defeat Tottenham 6-2 at Stamford Bridge. Lauren James and Ellie Carpenter each scored two goals for Sonia Bompastor's side, with substitutes Maika Hamano and Sjoeke Nusken also finding the net. Bompastor, in her 50th WSL game, praised her squad's depth and the impact of her substitutes.
Elsewhere, London City Lionesses secured a 2-1 victory over Everton, while Manchester United climbed to fifth place after a 3-1 win against bottom-placed Charlton. Aston Villa claimed their first league win of the season, coming from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1, and West Ham defeated Crystal Palace 1-0.
