Manchester City have opened talks with Liverpool to sign Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo. The 27-year-old's future is set to be a key storyline as the transfer window approaches its final three days.
City made formal contact with Liverpool on Saturday evening. Sources indicate that City is Gakpo's preferred destination if he departs Anfield before Tuesday's deadline.
Gakpo's potential exit follows Liverpool's agreement to sign Paris St-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. However, Liverpool is understood to prefer signing another forward before sanctioning Gakpo's departure this summer. The Reds have an interest in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr.
Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and has scored 33 goals in 91 Premier League appearances. He provided an assist in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, having also scored in last week's draw at Newcastle.
