Man convicted after upskirting girl in Cardiff shopping centre

Alex Allegretto, 39, has pleaded guilty to filming beneath a young girl's skirt in a shopping centre. He admitted to operating a mobile phone beneath the clothing of another person for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.

Police were called to St David's 2 shopping centre on the morning of 7 July after a mother reported Allegretto for upskirting her daughter. CCTV footage showed Allegretto putting his phone by the victim's legs before running away.

Allegretto was sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on 5 August. He must register with the police for five years under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, complete 140 hours of unpaid work, fulfil rehabilitation activity requirements, and pay a financial penalty of £199.

Sgt Luis Antony from South Wales Police stated that the victim continues to be impacted by the incident, experiencing anxiety when out and about.
