Jasskamal Riyat has denied charges of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal collision in Leeds in January 2023.

  • Jasskamal Riyat, 37, is on trial at Leeds Crown Court.
  • The collision on Scott Hall Road in Leeds killed Justyna Hulboj, 27, and Lena Czepczor, four.
  • The driver of the Audi involved, Hardeep Bachu, has pleaded guilty to the same offences.

Jasskamal Riyat, 37, has denied charges of causing death by dangerous driving. He is accused of racing another motorist moments before that vehicle struck and killed a mother and daughter in Leeds in January 2023.

Justyna Hulboj, 27, and four-year-old Lena Czepczor were hit by an Audi TT on the pavement on Scott Hall Road while walking to nursery on 16 January 2023. Mr Riyat was driving a BMW 1 Series closely behind the Audi and is currently on trial at Leeds Crown Court.

Prosecutor Carmel Pearson stated that Mr Riyat and the Audi driver, Hardeep Bachu, were racing on the 40mph road. She described their driving as "competitive" and "aggressive", telling jurors they had been "egging each other on" during the morning rush hour.

Mr Bachu has already pleaded guilty to the same offences and will be sentenced after Mr Riyat's trial. The trial for Mr Riyat continues.
