Stephen Sellars, 62, of Hibaldstow, North Lincolnshire, has been jailed for 16 months for having sex with a dead body. He was sentenced at Hull Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to the offence of sexual penetration of a corpse at an earlier hearing.
The court heard that Sellars was interrupted by the woman's son and nephew while carrying out the act in her home. Prosecutor Rachel Scott stated that Sellars had been left alone with the victim, who had died after a cancer diagnosis, for approximately 15 minutes.
Judge John Thackray KC, in passing sentence, described the incident as a "clearly planned attack". He also imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order on Sellars and a restraining order concerning the victim's son and nephew.
