Manchester United Secures Record Sleeve Sponsorship with SumUp

Manchester United has signed a multi-year sleeve sponsorship deal with fintech company SumUp, valued at over £20m annually, a club record.

  • The multi-year deal with SumUp is worth more than £20m a year, a club record for sleeve sponsorship.
  • SumUp's logo will appear on the matchday shirts of United's men's, women's and youth teams.
  • This agreement follows United's club record training kit sponsorship with Betway and precedes their Champions League return.

Manchester United has announced a club record multi-year sleeve sponsorship deal with fintech unicorn SumUp, valued at over £20m per year. This agreement fills the club's sleeve sponsor vacancy, which had led to a breach of Premier League rules at the start of the season.

The London-based mobile payment solutions provider will feature on the sleeves of matchday shirts for United’s men’s, women’s, and youth teams. This new deal surpasses the £20m-per-season paid by previous sponsor DXC Technology.

Marc Armstrong, United's chief commercial officer, stated that the agreement supports the club's commercial growth strategy and highlights its appeal to ambitious brands globally. Luke Griffiths, UK CEO of SumUp, noted that the partnership is a natural fit due to Manchester United's global reach and passionate fanbase.

This marks SumUp's first venture into elite sports sponsorship. The deal comes as Manchester United prepares for its return to the Champions League this week, following a two-year absence.

Why this matters: This record-breaking sponsorship deal boosts Manchester United's commercial revenue and aligns with their strategy for global brand engagement.
