Manchester United's debt surpasses £1.1bn after £90m additional borrowing

Manchester United has confirmed an additional £90m in borrowing since June 30, pushing the club's total debt to over £1.1bn. This comes despite cost-cutting measures implemented by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Manchester United has confirmed borrowing an additional £90m since June 30, bringing the club's total debt to more than £1.1bn. This information was included in a detailed filing to the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, following the release of their 2025-26 accounts.

The club's overall debt now totals £1.15bn. This figure includes £578m in historic debt, £200m outstanding on its revolving credit facility, and £375m in outstanding transfer fees. The outstanding transfer fees represent a £72m reduction from the £447m reported in the 2024-25 accounts.

United also confirmed spending £191.7m on new players this summer, acquiring Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba. The stated fees for these transfers totalled £153m, with the allocation of the additional sum not specified. The club made three drawdowns from its revolving credit limit in July and August, totalling £120m, before repaying £30m on September 21.
