Marc Skinner has stepped down as manager of Manchester United Women, just a month before the start of the new Women's Super League season. The 43-year-old had been at the helm for five years, guiding the team to their inaugural major trophy, the Women's FA Cup, in 2024.
Under Skinner's leadership, United also reached the Women's Champions League group stages for the first time last year and were runners-up in three domestic cup finals. His departure comes ahead of United's season opener against London City Lionesses on 4 September.
Skinner had reportedly raised concerns regarding a lack of investment in the squad, with United having a quiet transfer window. The club has shifted its recruitment strategy to focus on younger players for long-term success. Sources indicate that discussions between the club and Skinner led to a mutual agreement for his departure, and the search for a replacement, prioritising a coach with a history of developing players, is reportedly advanced.
