Mason Crane Recalled to England ODI Squad for Pakistan Tri-Series

Leg-spinner Mason Crane has been named in England's One-Day International squad for the upcoming tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, marking his return to international cricket nearly eight years after his solitary Test cap.

  • Mason Crane has been recalled to the England ODI squad for the tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
  • The tri-series begins on 18 October, with England flying to Islamabad on 15 October.
  • Jos Buttler will miss the trip due to a hamstring tear, and Jofra Archer is being rested.

Leg-spinner Mason Crane has earned a recall to the England squad for the one-day international tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka later this month. This marks his return to international duty nearly eight years after his only Test cap in Sydney.

Harry Brook's squad is set to fly to Islamabad on 15 October for the round-robin tournament, which will serve as preparation for next year's 50-over World Cup. The three teams will play each other twice in the group stage, culminating in a final at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on 31 October.

Jos Buttler will miss the tour due to a recent hamstring tear, while Jofra Archer is being rested. However, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return from injury, and James Coles has also secured a spot. Crane's inclusion sees him replace Rehan Ahmed as the back-up wrist-spinner in the squad.

Marcus North, England men’s national selector, commented on Crane's selection, stating that he has been performing consistently for Glamorgan and is an "experienced, high-class leg-spinner who thoroughly deserves another opportunity at international level."

With Archer rested, Henry Crocombe joins the seam attack, having impressed for Sussex. Sonny Baker, recently voted the Professional Cricketers Association’s young player of the year, is also expected to share the new ball with Josh Tongue.

Why this matters: The tri-series serves as preparation for next year's 50-over World Cup, allowing England to fine-tune their squad and strategies.
