Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja was arrested yesterday, 26 September, in Liverpool outside the Labour Party Conference venue. He was detained after sitting with a sign that stated: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”
Police informed Del Naja, also known as 3D, that displaying the sign constituted an offence because Palestine Action is a proscribed organisation under the Terrorism Act 2000. Del Naja stated he did not recognise the offence, arguing that under UK law, it is an offence to aid individuals or companies involved in genocidal war crimes.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of showing support for a proscribed organisation. This marks Del Naja's second arrest related to his support for Palestine Action.
The arrest occurred on the eve of Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s first Labour Party Conference since taking office in July. Palestine Action was proscribed by the UK government in July 2025, a decision that has faced legal challenges. While the High Court ruled the proscription unlawful in February, the Court of Appeal overturned this in June, deeming it lawful. A further appeal is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court in November.
