Young British cyclist Matthew Brennan has secured his fifth stage victory at the Vuelta a España, winning the 17th stage in a bunch sprint in Seville. The 21-year-old Grand Tour debutant crossed the finish line ahead of Jordi Meeus and Magnus Cort Nielsen on Wednesday.
The 185km flat stage from Dos Hermanas to the Andalusian capital saw an early two-man break by Sinuhe Fernandez and Enzo Paleni, who built a lead of over five minutes. However, the peloton absorbed Paleni with just three kilometres remaining.
Brennan's victory places him in an exclusive group of riders to achieve five or more stage wins in a single Grand Tour. Meanwhile, general classification leader Enric Mas moved closer to a maiden Grand Tour victory, maintaining his 2min 6sec lead over Felix Gall. Primoz Roglic is a further four seconds behind Gall.
