Matthias Jaissle, the current manager of Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, is reportedly the surprise favourite to take over as Newcastle's head coach. He is expected to replace Eddie Howe, who is set to leave St James' Park after nearly five years.
The 38-year-old German coach has a strong record of success, having won the Austrian Bundesliga twice and the Austrian Cup once during his two seasons with RB Salzburg. More recently, Jaissle guided Al-Ahli to consecutive Asian Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026.
Jaissle's teams are known for playing high-pressing, attacking football, a style that may appeal to Magpies supporters. Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season and are set to begin their league campaign at home against Liverpool on Sunday, 23 August.
