London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan is to invest £400,000 in the recruitment of Renters Rights Act enforcement officers and other tenant's rights services. This funding, part of Khan's 'Renters Rights Enforcement Fund', will be used to train newly recruited officers across London boroughs.
The remaining funds will go to two organisations that provide free advice and support to renters. A statement from the Mayor's office indicated that the funding aims to ensure renters have support when facing issues such as dangerous housing conditions, unfair rent increases, or landlords who do not follow the law.
Mayor Khan commented that the Renters Rights Act is a "game changer for tenants," providing stronger rights and greater security. He stated that the investment will help ensure these new rights are effective by supporting organisations and training councils to enforce the law.
