Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe believes that 2026 could be the year he finally lifts the Ballon d'Or trophy for the first time. The 27-year-old scored an impressive 42 goals in 44 games for his club last season, although Real Madrid did not secure any trophies.
Mbappe also made history at the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot with 10 goals and taking his career tally in the competition to a record 22. Despite France finishing fourth, he feels his achievements and association with Real Madrid could boost his chances. "I think when you play for Real Madrid, the best club in the world, people associate you with this award," he stated.
The forward acknowledged that journalists cast the votes for the prestigious award, which will be presented on 26 October. Bookmakers currently have Harry Kane as the favourite, following his 61 goals in 51 games for Bayern Munich and six World Cup goals. Lamine Yamal and Rodri are also considered strong contenders.
Mbappe's highest previous Ballon d'Or ranking was third in 2023, during his time at Paris St-Germain. He is the all-time top scorer for both PSG and France, and has netted 90 goals in 107 matches for Real Madrid, but has yet to win a major trophy with the Spanish club.
