The wait is over for supercar enthusiasts as Woking-based McLaren unveiled its latest extreme model, the 788HS, at the prestigious 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This eagerly anticipated vehicle, developed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), marks a poignant swansong for the 720S line, which has left an indelible mark on the automotive world since its introduction in 2017.
The 788HS promises significant enhancements over its predecessors, boasting a potent V8 engine delivering 777bhp (788 metric horsepower) and a blistering 0-62mph acceleration time of just 2.8 seconds. With a top speed of 205mph, this extreme model also benefits from advanced aerodynamics, including a new front S-duct and an elevated rear spoiler, generating 10% more downforce than the 765LT.
Exclusivity is a defining feature of the 788HS, with McLaren limiting production to just 200 units worldwide. This allocation will be evenly split between 100 coupe versions and 100 open-top Spider variants, ensuring its status as a highly sought-after collector's item. The vehicle's development by MSO highlights its focus on extreme performance and unparalleled customisation.
McLaren's decision to produce the 788HS marks the end of an era for the 720S line, which has undergone significant transformations since its introduction in 2017. The original 720S set new benchmarks upon its launch, while subsequent models like the 765LT and 750S refined the series, culminating in this ultimate iteration.
