Brandon McNulty has made history by becoming the first American to win the men's road race world title in 33 years, claiming a stunning victory in Montreal. The 28-year-old crossed the finish line 13 seconds clear of his rivals, completing the challenging 273.4km course in six hours and 17 minutes.
McNulty's win marks the first time an American has taken the title since Lance Armstrong in 1993. He launched a decisive attack with 30km remaining, building a 50-second lead by the final lap. Despite visibly tiring on the last climb, his lead was maintained, preventing the chasing pack from catching him.
Australia's Michael Matthews secured second place, while former winner Mathieu van der Poel of the Netherlands finished third. Britain's Tom Pidcock placed seventh, with Ireland's Ben Healy in 10th and Belgium's Remco Evenepoel in 12th.
