The hunting media brand MeatEater, which features Steven Rinella's television show, has expanded its audience considerably since its transition to Netflix in 2018. This growth was particularly notable during the pandemic, attracting a diverse viewership that includes ethical vegans, outdoors enthusiasts, and middle-class suburban parents.
The increased interest in hunting and conservation has coincided with a significant rise in meat prices. A pound of ground beef, which cost $3.88 in March 2020, had risen to $4.74 by June 2020. As of today, 3 October 2026, the same pound of ground beef is priced at $6.92, representing a 78% increase from its pre-pandemic cost.
Why this matters: The rising cost of meat may be influencing consumer interest in alternative food sources and hunting-related content.
