Mercedes-Benz is set to integrate British start-up Wayve’s self-driving technology into its vehicles within the next two years. This agreement represents Wayve's third significant production deal in under nine months.
The German carmaker has signed a production agreement to incorporate Wayve’s AI Driver into future models. This will enable cars to manage point-to-point journeys in urban environments using advanced driver assistance.
Mercedes is the first premium carmaker to adopt Wayve’s technology, following previous agreements with Nissan and Stellantis. The companies have already integrated Wayve’s software with Mercedes’ existing hardware, operating system, and mapping systems, conducting tests in Stuttgart, London, and San Francisco.
Wayve's AI technology is trained on driving data to adapt to various roads and environments, aiming for a consistent system across multiple vehicles and markets. Customers are expected to access the first Mercedes vehicles featuring Wayve’s technology within the next two years.
