Heavy rain is set to batter Merthyr Tydfil on Sunday, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for the entire county borough. Forecasters predict between 20-30mm of rain will fall within 12 hours, but isolated areas could see significantly higher totals, potentially reaching 40-50mm.
Such volumes of rainfall in a short timeframe raise concerns about surface water flooding and hazardous driving conditions. The Met Office warns of possible delays to road, rail, and bus services, as well as spray and flooding on roads that could reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents.
Residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas are at particular risk, with homes and businesses potentially experiencing localised flooding. Across Wales and south-west England, other areas may see unsettled weather over the weekend.
Northern Ireland and Scotland can expect a mix of sunshine and showers, while temperatures will remain mild for the time of year. In Merthyr Tydfil itself, residents can expect average temperatures of 10-12 degrees Celsius, with light to moderate southerly winds of 10-15 mph.
Residents are urged to take precautions, clearing drains, securing outdoor items and checking local flood alerts and travel information before making journeys. The warning will remain in place from 6am until 6pm on Sunday, April 28th.
