The Met Office has issued a series of yellow weather warnings for heavy rain that will blanket large parts of the UK on Monday, November 6th, threatening widespread disruption and flooding. The alerts cover numerous regions across England, Wales, and Scotland, where residents are bracing themselves for challenging conditions.
Forecasters predict that many areas within the warning zones could see 20-30mm of rain over the course of the day, with totals potentially escalating to 40-60mm in more exposed locations. This will significantly increase the risk of surface water flooding and contribute to difficult driving conditions, with reduced visibility and spray on roads.
The warnings are particularly concentrated across the South West, including Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset, extending through the South East to cover areas like Hampshire, Sussex, and Kent. Parts of the Midlands, including Worcestershire and Herefordshire, and sections of the North West, such as Greater Manchester and Lancashire, are also included. Wales faces a similar outlook, with large parts of the country under a yellow warning for rain, from Anglesey down to Cardiff. Southern Scotland, specifically the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway, is also expected to experience significant rainfall.
Temperatures across the UK on Monday are forecast to remain relatively mild for the time of year, generally ranging between 9°C and 13°C. However, the heavy rain will be accompanied by blustery winds, with gusts potentially reaching 40-50 mph in coastal areas and on higher ground.
The Met Office advises residents to check local flood alerts, allow extra time for journeys, and be prepared for potential power outages. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, maintain safe distances, and avoid driving through floodwater, as depths can be deceptive. Pedestrians should also exercise care, especially near drains and culverts.
