Sandhya Devanathan, Meta's Vice President for India and Southeast Asia, is leaving the social media company to take up a new role at OpenAI. OpenAI confirmed that Devanathan will be based in Singapore and report to Kiran Mani, OpenAI's Asia-Pacific managing director.

In her new position, Devanathan will be responsible for consumer growth, enterprise adoption, partnerships, regulatory engagement, and operations across Southeast Asia and Australia. Her appointment follows Prabhjeet Singh joining OpenAI as its India head, and comes as OpenAI expands its presence in the Asia Pacific region with new offices in various cities.

Devanathan's departure from Meta occurs after more than a decade with the company, during which she held several leadership roles, including leading its Asia Pacific gaming business. Meta has recently faced increased scrutiny in India regarding issues such as online safety and content moderation.
