Meta's Muse AI app surpasses ChatGPT's early mobile download figures

Meta's new AI app, Muse, has recorded more downloads and daily active users in the US and Canada than ChatGPT did during its initial mobile launch period, according to estimates from Appfigures.

  • Muse saw 1.8 million iOS downloads in the US and Canada during its first twelve days, compared to ChatGPT's 1.3 million in the same period.
  • Muse has 642,000 daily active users in the US, exceeding ChatGPT's 231,000 at a comparable stage.
  • Over 95% of Muse users are also Facebook users, and 63% are Instagram users.

Meta's new AI application, Muse, has reportedly surpassed ChatGPT's early mobile launch performance in terms of downloads and daily active users in the US and Canada. Market intelligence provider Appfigures estimates that Muse recorded 1.8 million iOS downloads in the US and Canada within its first twelve days, compared to ChatGPT's 1.3 million during a similar period.

The firm also found that Muse has a higher number of daily active users. In the US, Muse has 642,000 daily users, while ChatGPT had 231,000 at a comparable point after its launch. Even when comparing only iOS data, Muse still shows higher daily active users at 359,000.

Muse is available on both Apple's App Store and Google Play in the US and Canada, whereas ChatGPT initially launched globally but only on iOS. Appfigures' data indicates that Muse has seen 2.8 million total installs globally in its first 12 days. The app has also risen to the No. 1 position overall on the U.S. App Store.

Appfigures provides third-party estimates and does not have direct access to Meta's internal figures. Meta has not yet released public figures regarding Muse's early adoption.

Why this matters: The data suggests Muse could become a significant app for Meta, potentially leveraging the company's existing user base and cross-promotion strategies.
