A noticeable trend among some millennial gamers is a retreat to familiar gaming territory, with many resuming retro collections or replaying titles from their university days. Some are also sticking to comfort games such as Stardew Valley.
This return to older games coincides with the summer 2026 release of remakes for Lylat Wars (N64, 1997), now known as Star Fox on Switch 2, and Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox, 2001), re-released as Halo: Campaign Evolved on other consoles and PC.
Velan Studios, based in New York, developed the Star Fox remake, which largely preserves the original Nintendo 64 shooter while enhancing its visuals, adding new cutscenes, dialogue, and multiplayer and challenge modes. Halo: Campaign Evolved, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, deviates more from the original Bungie title with different vehicle handling and cutscenes, but maintains its core gameplay elements.
