Millions of Europeans are set to experience a solar eclipse on Wednesday evening. A total eclipse will be visible across a wide band of north and central Spain, as well as parts of Portugal, Greenland, and Iceland.
Across much of western Europe, including the UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and northern Italy, the light of the setting sun is expected to be virtually blocked out.
For viewers in London, the Royal Observatory Greenwich calculates that the partial eclipse will commence at 18:17 BST, reach its maximum point at 19:12 BST, and conclude at 20:06 BST.
Experts have advised against looking directly at the sun with the naked eye or using sunglasses, as this can cause permanent eye damage. Instead, they recommend using special eclipse glasses.
