The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has commenced work to enhance its Catch Recording App and web service. This initiative follows technical issues that have previously impacted the submission of catch records, particularly via the mobile application.
The upgraded service has been revised to offer a more reliable and resilient platform. While the underlying technology will be significantly improved, the new application is designed to maintain a familiar look and feel for fishermen and other users.
Michael Coyle, Acting Director of Digital, Analysis and Regulatory Reform, stated that the MMO recognises the impact of past technical issues and the importance of a dependable digital service. He added that this investment aims to create a more robust platform to meet user needs and support future improvements.
Peter Clark, Director of Operations, highlighted the vital role of catch recording in fisheries management. He emphasised the importance of industry being able to rely on services supporting these reporting requirements.
Development of the service is currently in its early stages. The MMO plans to provide updates to industry and stakeholders as the project progresses. Existing requests for enhancements will not be part of this initial improvement programme but remain under consideration for future development.
