Modulate, a voice intelligence startup based in Boston, has secured $25 million in new funding. The company's platform employs an array of small models to provide services such as transcription, emotional analysis, and the detection of deepfakes and AI-generated music for enterprises.
The funding round was led by Future Ventures, with additional investment from Hyperplane and Lakestar. This latest injection of capital follows a trend among investors in the voice AI industry who are backing companies focused on making AI voices sound more human and detecting the intent behind human conversations.
Founded in 2017 by Mike Pappas and Carter Huffman, Modulate initially concentrated on voice modulation for gaming before shifting its focus to voice-based moderation tools. The company now concentrates on detecting various forms of AI audio generation and analysing the intent behind a person's words. Modulate's technology is also reportedly being used to monitor cyberattacks via voice calls.
The startup currently operates with 40-45 employees and aims to recruit 10 more in the coming months to bolster its model building efforts. Modulate is also working on increasing its on-premises and on-device deployment capabilities to enhance privacy.
