The family of Kirandeep Kaur, an Indian woman brutally murdered in her Hayes home, is facing a desperate wait for the repatriation of their loved one's body. Baljeet, her mother, has made an emotional appeal from India, begging for her daughter's remains to be returned to Punjab after she was allegedly stabbed to death by a stranger while sleeping with her husband and three-month-old baby.
Baljeet told ITV News: "We send them somewhere safe to study, then this happens. We didn't realise that hooliganism and violence were also prevalent in the UK. We want justice for our daughter. We want her body returned from Hayes." Her brother, Gurvinder Singh, revealed that the family was only informed of Kirandeep's death on Friday, leaving them "shocked" and struggling to come to terms with the logistical challenges of bringing their loved one back home.
In response to the family's plight, the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall gurdwara has launched a GoFundMe campaign. The initiative aims to raise funds for funeral costs, facilitate Kirandeep Kaur's repatriation to India, and provide support for her grieving family. As of Monday morning, the campaign had successfully raised more than £55,000, demonstrating significant community support.
During a court hearing on Thursday, details emerged of the alleged attack. Prosecutors accused Daniel Sean James, 46, of breaking into the Kaur's residence and stabbing Kirandeep to death. The Old Bailey heard that James had also allegedly stabbed a man in his 20s in the back on a nearby street just before the incident, and that he was a complete stranger to both victims. James, from Pinner in north-west London, is alleged to have exited the property two minutes later by jumping from a kitchen-living-room window, breaking both ankles in the process.
James has been formally charged with Kirandeep Kaur's murder, as well as attempted murder and possessing a blade. Judge Lickley has scheduled a plea hearing for 1 October 2026, with a provisional three-week trial set to commence on 5 April 2027 as the legal proceedings continue in this tragic case.
